What Are Overactive and Underactive Chakras?

It is common to hear about chakra balancing and the practice of having them aligned in your energy field. However, there are so many more details and layers taking place within our chakra system and energy field, it's important to address and understand the depth of our complex and magnificent energy system.

The word chakra translates from the Sanskrit word meaning "wheel". These are vortices of energy in our human energy field where energy flows in and out from. We have countless chakras, if you include the meridian system, the energetic feeder lines within our body. There are 12 major chakras, within our body, above our head and below our feet. However, the most commonly knowns ones are within the body as the seven main chakras.

The flow of energy in our chakras truly dictates our health, our emotional and mental wellbeing and how we interact with life.

When our chakras in our energy field are open and spinning in a rhythm that is balanced and clear, this is a healthy flowing chakra, Each chakra has a cone shape that extends from the front and back of your body.

Many times chakras can be balanced but this is often only balancing the outer layer of the chakras. We can still hold deeper core issues in the inner layers of the chakra, such as beliefs and patterns and karmic themes that prevent the balanced flow of that chakra.

What is an Overactive Chakra?

If too much energy is flowing from a chakra, you can think of this like a hose that is spewing water, bulging with the build up of that force. Within a chakra, this can show up in many ways, too much energy flowing in a chakra can cause excessive thinking (third eye or crown related), excessive talking (throat chakra), bossiness (solar plexus), over-sexualized (sacral), etc. These are only a few examples of how this can show up emotionally and behaviorally, but overactive chakras can also impact the health of the body related to those chakra areas. Overactive chakras will often point toward blocks in other areas that are causing the energy to divert into another chakra, like a highway that is closed off and needing another access point.

What is an Underactive Chakra?

If there is a lack of energy flowing in a chakra, this can impact in many different ways as well.

Within a chakra, this can show up as feeling insecure or shy (throat or solar plexus), isolated ( this can be a result of trauma or self protection related to the lower chakras or neck chakra), poor boundaries (solar plexus), lack of joy or lack of self love (heart chakra).

Underactive chakras can also point toward blockages in those chakras when there isn't enough energy flowing through them. There is often a root cause or several contributing factors taking place in the energy field of those chakras to cause the blockages.

All of these can impact how much energy is flowing in each of these energy centers and ultimately your overall health and wellbeing.
